PMAY-U 2.0 New Approval 2026: 29,000+ Houses Sanctioned
More than 29,000 additional houses have been approved under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0), taking the total number of houses sanctioned under the scheme to 18.77 lakh.
The latest approval was given during the 9th meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) held in New Delhi on 10 September 2026. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) officially announced the decision on 11 September 2026.
The new houses cover proposals from Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Telangana, Tripura and Uttar Pradesh.
What Was Approved in the 9th CSMC Meeting?
According to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, more than 29,000 houses were approved under two PMAY-U 2.0 verticals:
- Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC)
- Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP)
With these approvals, total PMAY-U 2.0 sanctions have reached 18.77 lakh houses nationwide.
The increase is part of the continuing rollout of PMAY-U 2.0. At the previous, 8th CSMC meeting in August 2026, the government had reported total sanctions of more than 18.38 lakh houses under the scheme.
Which States Are Included in the Latest Approval?
The September 2026 approval covers housing proposals from six states:
State
---
Assam
Bihar
Gujarat
Telangana
Tripura
Uttar Pradesh
The government announcement gives the combined approval of over 29,000 houses across these states. It does not provide a state-wise breakup in the published press release.
Applicants should therefore avoid unofficial claims assigning a specific number of these houses to an individual state unless that figure is separately published by the government.
What Do BLC and AHP Mean?
Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC) is meant for eligible beneficiaries who need assistance to construct a house on their available land. Under PMAY-U 2.0, BLC is one of the scheme’s four main verticals.
Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP) supports affordable housing projects developed through States, Union Territories, cities and other permitted implementation models for eligible households.
PMAY-U 2.0 also includes Affordable Rental Housing (ARH) and the Interest Subsidy Scheme (ISS).
The scheme has been designed to support eligible urban households in constructing, purchasing or renting affordable housing.
Does This Mean Your PMAY-U 2.0 Application Is Approved?
No.
The approval of more than 29,000 houses by the CSMC is a sanction of housing proposals under PMAY-U 2.0. It should not be interpreted as automatic approval of every application submitted by residents of the six states.
An individual applicant still has to satisfy the scheme’s eligibility requirements and go through beneficiary verification and the applicable State/UT and implementing-agency process.
Under the official PMAY-U 2.0 guidelines, an eligible beneficiary family generally should not own a pucca house anywhere in India in the name of the applicant or another family member. The scheme covers eligible households in the EWS, LIG and MIG categories, subject to the conditions applicable to each vertical.
If you have already applied, rely on your official PMAY-U 2.0 application or beneficiary status rather than assuming approval based only on this CSMC announcement.
What Happens Next?
MoHUA has asked States and Union Territories to ensure timely implementation and monitoring of PMAY-U 2.0 projects and to address bottlenecks that could delay benefits to eligible families.
The Ministry also said that CSMC meetings will be convened every second week of the month. States and UTs have been asked to submit duly approved projects by the end of each month so that they can be considered in subsequent meetings.
This means further project sanctions may continue as States and UTs submit eligible housing proposals.
